Western Riverside County was split off from 909 into area code 951 on July 17, 2004. 909 still covers small portions of Corona, Riverside, and Moreno Valley which are in Riverside County. The 909 area code now covers far eastern Los Angeles County and southwestern San Bernardino County, California. It contains cities such as: Colton, San Bernardino, Ontario, Fontana, Chino, and Pomona. Historically the area codes 323 (Downtown/Eastern Los Angeles), and 909(Inland Empire) have had the most crime in California.
